Integration of Non-French-Speaking Students at EFIP

At the French International School of Prishtina (EFIP), we believe that language should never be a barrier to quality education. Our commitment to multilingual learning ensures that non-French-speaking students integrate smoothly into the French curriculum while benefiting from a supportive and structured learning environment.

Our school promotes a trilingual education through:

• Our teachers are proficient in all three languages, which helps students easily understand the course content. If a student does not understand a word in French, they can hear it in English or Albanian, thus facilitating their learning.

• Lessons in French, English, and Albanian helping students feel comfortable while learning a new language.

• A multicultural atmosphere where students and teachers encourage language diversity and mutual support.

• The opportunity to practice French in everyday school activities, fostering natural language acquisition.

To help students who do not speak French, EFIP offers a dedicated French as a Language of Schooling (FLSco) program. This structured support includes:

• Intensive French language classes tailored to different proficiency levels.
• Personalized support from trained educators to reinforce language skills.
• Progressive integration into the regular curriculum to build confidence.
• The goal is to understand academic French, student jargon, the vocabulary of school life, and school rituals. The FLSco teacher teaches students the vocabulary of each subject: mathematics vocabulary, chemistry, geography, etc.

Beyond academics, we focus on cultural and social integration to ensure that non-French-speaking students feel part of the EFIP community. Our initiatives include:

• Buddy systems pairing new students with fluent French speakers.
• Interactive learning activities such as games, music, and storytelling to encourage natural language acquisition.
• Parental involvement programs to support language learning at home.

EFIP’s structured adaptation process enables non-French-speaking students to rapidly develop their language skills while excelling in their studies. At this age, children learn at a remarkable pace! Some continue their studies in English-speaking international schools abroad, illustrating the effectiveness of our multilingual educational approach.
